Hello again! I’m trying to work through a lot of the old projects from being out, so this one was from back in 2021.
My husband and I got a puppy back in 2021. His name is Domino! This is a picture of him when we first brought him home. Isn’t he cute?! ❤
So Domino obviously needed cute bandanas and shirts and stuff! Right?
Well, we did find him some. Specifically, I really liked one that we found at the pet store that slid over his collar. It was nice because it was easy to put on, and it was small enough that he didn’t mind it being on him. (He didn’t care for shirts, he is better now, but still not a fan.)

The only real problem I had with the bandana that I found was that it was Halloween themed… So after Halloween, it wasn’t really applicable.
It wasn’t until about halfway through November when my husband pointed out that “wouldn’t you be able to just… make more bandanas?” That’s when I really spent some time looking at it and how it was constructed.
Some Notes on the Pattern I Came Up With:
- The width of the top tube is 6 inches (15.24cm)
- When cutting, I added 1/4 (0.635cm) inch to each side for the seam
- I put this long edge along the fold in the fabric
- The point is about 4-5 inches (10.16-12.7cm) from the flat edge
- The tube where the collar slides in is 1.5 (3.81cm) inches wide
- I cut notches at the point and on either side where the bandana starts to angle towards the point.
- These are probably not necessary, but I thought they might help when doing seams.
I did size up the pattern to make other size bandanas. The size above is for small dogs (because that’s what I have). I am not 100% happy with the patterns I made for the medium and large dogs. Mainly that is because when I sized up the pattern, I increased everything which included the width of the collar tube. This section of the bandana doesn’t need to be increased unless the collar you use is on the wider side. Other than that, everything else increases pretty well.
Let me know your thoughts on this, and if there’s anything you would have done differently! I’m going to end this here and just add pictures of puppies wearing their bandanas. Enjoy!
Thanks for reading! – Jo
