From Simple Beginnings
Hello there! I’m no professional by any means, but I have been around the block a few times when it comes to the world of crafts and crochet.
When it comes to my family, everyone has at least one craft they do. My mom crochets, cross stitches, sews, paints, and plays piano (yes, that is a form of art). My sisters all crochet, some of them paint and do other fine arts, one of them is a chef, and a couple of them sew. My brother draws geometric designs and does origami. My dad even has his little area of artistic craftsmanship, even though he denies it. He once took scrap metal and welded it into a grill in the shape of a tractor.
But you know what? None of us started out making such amazing things as piano arrangements, painted masterpieces, and homemade grills. We all had to start at the beginning.
My mom learned to crochet from her mom when she was young, and she in turn taught me and my three sisters. I learned at the ripe old age of 9. My first project was the oh-so-common Scarf! That’s right. Just like everyone else I began with the most simple project known to the world of fiber craft. And you know what? It looked like a dying duck. The edges were uneven, my stitch count changed every other row, and I think I only got it about two feet long. But, hey, for a 9-year-old just learning to crochet for the first time, that wasn’t too bad.
But here I am, many years later, finally starting a blog because my store manager wouldn’t leave me alone about selling my projects, or at least getting them out there for others to see and appreciate. (Kasey, I hope you read this some day.)
Contained here in this blog you will find a variety of crochet and other projects that I have made over the years for family, friends, coworkers, and everyone in between. Some of them I have found a pattern for, others are works of my own. But all of them start the same way: at the beginning, just like everything in this big beautiful world.
So how about you? Are you a seasoned crafter looking for some new ideas? Or are you someone just starting out? Where did you begin? And how far are you going to go?
Thanks for reading. – Jo
