Welcome to the World of Jochet!

Craft Projects, Tips, Tricks, Ideas, and the occasional Masterpiece!

So many projects… So little time…

What is Crochet?

Crochet is a fiber craft that uses a hook and yarn in order to make intricate weaving patterns that come together to form fabric-like pieces that range from slippers and hats to blankets, bags, and other useful items.

Another fun explanation I have seen was that crochet is using a metal or wooden wand and some yarn while grumbling nonsense words and then – Vola!– its a blanket!

Either way you look at it, crochet is a craft. Not a common craft it would seem, but it has been making its way back into popularity. I like crochet for it’s versatility and usefulness. Maybe you do too. Maybe you don’t know what you’re missing yet. Maybe it’s time you found out.

As this blog has grown, other crafts and projects have found their way t this page (i.e. sewing, needlepoint, and cooking). So with that, let me educate you a little bit!

Sewing

Sewing is a very old process that involves piecing together fabric using thread of some sort in order to create the desired finished product. This used to be done by hand using a needle and thread and took days if not weeks depending on the intricacy of what you were making. Fast forward to today, and we have electric sewing machines that can get many projects done in a few hours. Some still take longer (Thank you Mom and Grandma for my junior prom dress it was absolutely beautiful), but generally no more than a week for most things.

Needlepoint

Needlepoint is also a pretty old tradition. This one is done using – get this- a NEEDLE! I know, crazy, right? You use a needle and thread to make a pattern on the outside of a fabric. This can be done through embroidery, cross stitch, or some other less well-known methods like “chicken scratch.” This takes a lot more time to complete as this is done by hand. There are tools out there that have been made to expedite this process; however,… I kind of find those to be cheating because I was made to learn the hard way. But if that is what works for you, more power to you; just know that if you ask me questions, I won’t know anything about it.

Cooking

Cooking…. Do I really need to explain this one? It’s pretty self explanatory, since most of us have probably made a meal at least once in our life. Even if it was as simple as making microwave noodles, that is still a form of cooking. Trust me, I have a whole cookbook about microwave meals and deserts. I’m no chef, but I know a thing or two about food. You could say that I would die without food. (Pause for laughter) No? Okay, well I thought it was funny.
