This was probably one of my favorite projects to sew, which is also probably why I have done so many of them.
A few years back, my cousin was getting married. So, for her bridal shower, I made her a quilted candle mat in her wedding colors: navy and yellow. I also used a daisy printed fabric to go along with it, and later found out that her flower choice was the daisy. So, it really just fit with the whole theme. The pattern I found for making one of these used a basic fusible interfacing. However, I wanted something a little sturdier to hold the shape of the wreath. I ended up using a fusible home decorating interfacing. It was a little harder to work with (mainly because I honestly don’t have a great sewing machine), but it gave it such a nice look.
I ended up making four more of these candle mats for the following mother’s day. and then a fifth one went to the county fair. It was entered in the craft show for “Household Goods.” I came in the Day after judging to find that I had won “Best in Show” for that category, which was pretty cool.
I do plan to get back into making these when I get settled into my new job. I have the fabric to do a nice tropical/Hawaiian themed one, and a St. Patrick’s Day one. Hoping to get to those this year.
As always, any questions, comments, concerns? Let me know!
Thanks for reading. – Jo
