Cowgirl Wedding Hat

Most little girls dream of the day when they get to wear their beautiful white dress, walk down the aisle, and say “I do.” I would be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about it a time or two and planned a couple homemade projects around it here and there. Most people have some kind of idea of what they want even before they have a partner to share their big day with.

My aunt was lucky enough to find my uncle and they got married a few years ago. It was kind of a spur of the moment thing for us. We weren’t expecting the two of them to come all the way home (they lived in a different state) to get married. A month before the wedding, we got the call. “Start planning something, because they were coming home.”

It was beautiful. Most of it was homemade by my grandma, mom, sister, and myself. My aunt is very into her western theme, so that was our starting point. We decorated mason jars with burlap, lace, feathers, turquoise and purple; I taught my sister how to fold strips of burlap into roses and secure them with hot glue; my grandma took an old denim skirt and added some pretty purple and turquoise fabric and lace. It was the perfect western reception once everything was together.

The last day we met together to prepare the odds and ends, I picked up a white cowboy hat from Dollar Tree. I took the scraps of lace from the skirt my grandma made, and I made my aunt her wedding hat (she didn’t want a veil).

Any questions, comments, concerns? Let me know!

P.S. Yes, I know this isn’t actually a sewing project, but I didn’t know where to put it exactly.
