Rustic Three-Point Shawl

So, not many of my projects are for specifically for me, but this one was. I wanted something big, warm, and blanket-like that I could wear. Because who doesn’t like to be cuddled up in a nice blanket at all hours of the day? Seriously, best feeling ever.

Anyway, I did some looking around and found this one on Pinterest. I liked the pattern; it was simple and allowed me to finish fairly quickly. I did use a smaller hook than was recommended, and I didn’t use a chunky yarn. So I ended up having to do a lot more rows than the original pattern called for. (This just goes to show you the importance of the gauge at the beginning of the pattern; now if only I would learn to check that once in a blue moon…)

The pattern didn’t originally include the stripping at the bottom, but I just felt that the plain gray really needed to be broken up. It was a bit much on it’s own. And I had green yarn that matched the Heather Gray really well, so… Ta Da! Stripes.

After finishing this project, I actually had a coworker ask me if I could make one for their girlfriend. I ended up making two: one in cream and pink, and the other in turquoise and a neon variegated yarn. Both turned out really well, and I wish I had taken pictures of them. They looked really nice.

I had the thought that, maybe, you could add tassels onto each of the three points (maybe two on the center point in the back). But, I didn’t do that for any of these shawls. Doing this pattern again, I would probably add some kind of frilly border to the “V” at least to give it a little bit more pizzazz, but the original shawl idea was to make something a little more plain that could go with multiple outfits and work for a casual look or a semi-dressy look.

Any questions, comments, or concerns? Let me know! (Maybe you have a better idea than a frilly border or some tassels!)
