Originally, when I found this Crochet pattern from abc-knitting-patterns.com, they had it labeled as a Chestnut leaf. While I do see the Chestnut in the pattern, I think it looks a little more like a Sycamore?

Sycamore leaf, a member of the maple family, isolated on white.
With the help of a Google search, you can see a Chestnut leaf on the left and a Sycamore leaf on the right. I call this a Sycamore because the whole piece is connected. But I do see the blades of the Chestnut in it.
Whatever the actual leaf type, I originally made this pattern with a nice variegated thread yarn in autumnal colors. It turned out as a pretty sharp doily. I later made the same pattern in a hunter’s orange worsted weight yarn. I put that one out on my coffee table around Thanksgiving.
One year for Christmas, I was asking my Nana what she wanted. Her normal response is that she just wants everyone together for the holidays. However, this year, she actually made a request for some a set of place mats for her table. I was quick to jump on the thought of her actually asking for something in particular and I began showing her some of the ones I had seen, both crochet and quilted.
She settled on the Sycamore leaf. I picked a nice burgundy red yarn because she likes red, and the accent color for her kitchen is close to a burgundy red.
Unfortunately, I got sick a week before Christmas and had to stop working on her present so that I didn’t get her sick too. I even went so far as to have my sister wrap the two I had been able to finish (my nana is a breast cancer survivor and does not always have the best immune system).
She loved them, and I got her the other two as soon as I was feeling better.
