Pokemon Pokeball Gift Bag

Pardon my camera for the terrible picture, but This one was fun.

So, one weekend in September, my boyfriend and I were relaxing at home when he received a text from his brother planning a birthday party for his nephew the following weekend.

As those of you who crochet know, crochet projects are best done in advance so you have time to prepare and fix any mishaps that may happen.

Well, I had all of a week for this one, and all we were told was that he was really getting into Pokemon. I said okay, and started searching Google for crochet ideas that were doable in less than a week. Well, I found a lot of different amiguri (crochet stuffed creatures) patterns for various Pokemon. However, the boy didn’t have a favorite Pokemon, so I didn’t really want to crochet one of the individual creatures.

But I did find a pattern for a dice bag that looked like one of the Pokemon balls. I thought, “This is great! I can put in some Pokemon cards and he’ll love it.” So I increased the size of the pattern and went for it.

The party was on Saturday or Sunday. On Wednesday, I was finished with the red and black sections, and I was starting the white section of the bag. That day, I was sitting with some of my friends at college during one of our breaks, and one of them pointed out a rather noticeable flaw in my bag pattern.

Did any of you see it already? Yes? No? Well, here it is. In Pokemon, the Pokeballs are red on top and white on bottom… As you can see from the photo, the bag I made is in the reverse colors.

It was halfway through Wednesday, I had classes and work, and there was no way I was going to be able to restart the project and finish it in time. So, I just swallowed my pride and made the bag in reverse.

At the birthday party, the little boy didn’t even notice that the colors were wrong. He was too excited about the fact that it was a Pokeball and it was filled with lots of cards, candy, and sugary treats to make sure his parents had a fun night.

I was told about a month later that he and his sister (her’s to follow) both used their crochet gift bags to go trick-or-treating for Halloween. That was the best thing I had heard that day.
