So, this was a fun project.
A previous manager that I worked for requested this particular project. Her then-boyfriend-now-husband’s daughter (I know that’s difficult to understand, just role with it) was having a baby boy. My manager wanted something to give to the new mother.
As was my custom with many positions I have had, I would use my break time to work on craft projects of various types. So, I was the first person she came to when she found out the baby was on the way. She requested “something for the new baby,” preferably in camouflage colors.
After a little searching through various google pictures for “crochet baby boy,” I found a picture of a baby cozy that looked like an owl. I didn’t have a specific pattern for this one; although, I know the original poster did have one posted (I just didn’t use it, because I couldn’t find a free version). But in the end, I made up the pattern you see pictured above. I was very pleased with it, and later made the same pattern for my aunt. That one had gray feathers and a white top.
The feather-textured stitch I used was the basic crocodile stitch. I like the look of it, and I have since used it in several other patterns as well (more posts to follow).
In the end, it turned out very well, and my manager really liked it. Her now-step-daughter loved it. However, the hardest critic is always the creator. I personally think the owl turned out a little angry-looking. If/When I make this pattern again, I will probably do something different for the eyes. Maybe I’ll do some simple top-stitching.
