This was probably one of my favorite baby blankets to make so far. And, I know, that comment will be pointless in the coming years, because I guarantee I will make more baby blankets. But this one turned out really cute.
My cousin found out that she was pregnant with a little boy. And her baby shower was Dr. Seuss themed. Do you see where this is going?
Well, I couldn’t find any really good Seussical blankets that I liked, so I took a different blanket pattern I found on Pinterest and made it into the Dr. Seuss blanket I was looking for.

It was difficult to get the blanket laid out in my small apartment, so it was draped over the couch for this picture. As you can kind of see, it makes the shape of a six-pointed star using the granny stitch.

I used alternating red and white yarn in order to make it look like the Cat in the Hat’s hat from Dr. Seuss. I finished off the trim with a light aqua blue that reminisces the sky-color from many of the Dr. Seuss books.
My favorite part, however, are the pompoms I added to each of the points.
I personally have never had any luck making pompoms. Mine have always been too loose and the yarn just pulls out or frays and nothing looks nice. In the end, I usually take the pompom off and just make whatever project I’m doing look cute without it.
Unfortunately, this blanket NEEDED pompoms. It was cute and whimsical on its own, but the blanket was not Dr. Seuss enough until I added the pompoms. So, I sat on the couch with my yarn and YouTube for two hours until I finally achieved my first pompom. Another hour or two later, and I had the other five.
I wasn’t able to attend the baby due to work schedules and last minute notice, but my sister took the blanket for me. The look on my cousin’s face when she opened it (as seen in the pictures my sister sent) made all of the headache worth it in the end.
But that’s what it is all really about for me. That is why I choose not to sell my projects. I crochet for people because I want to see the joy on their face when they receive it. I crochet for people because I want to make a difference in someone’s day.
And I think I achieved that goal with this one.
Anyway, any questions, comments, concerns? Let me know!
Thanks for reading. – Jo
